A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most entertaining plays, but as usual, Shakespeare brings us face to face with aspects of human life, too. Here he shows, among other things, the many faces of love. Shakespeare says, in a nutshell, that love is blind. In the play,
love transforms the beloved before the lover’s eyes. As Theseus says, “The lover . . . sees
Helen’s beauty in the brow of Egypt.”
