Social classes are very much recognized in the little town of San Isidro. Luisa (Kristine Hermosa) comes from a very poor family.
Her mother, Idad (Rio Locsin), is the laundrywoman of the town's rich and affluent families, including the snobbish Menang Medel (Cherie Gil).
But nothing can stop Menang's son Carding (TJ Trinidad), from being friends with Luisa.
They were inseparable until Carding's father dies and Menang opts to live in the U.S. with Carding.
After a tearful separation, Carding and Luisa promise to write each other.
Luisa keeps her promise but after a few months, Carding stops writing, leaving Luisa lonely and disappointed.
Ten years later, Luisa grows up into a beautiful and interlligent young woman.
She and her brother Totoy (Joros Gamboa), have dreams of finishing college to take their family out of poverty.
Menang returns to San Isidro with Carding. But Carding has grown up into a spoiled and irresponsible man.
So Luisa is more than ever determined to stay away from him.
But as soon as they see each other again, sparks begin to fly and there is no denying about their attraction for each other.
Carding begins to purse Luisa. Luisa distrusts Carding and would do her best to avoid him.
Also Menang wants Carding to marry Mimi (Andrea del Rosario), the daughter of her rich good friend Dona Carmen (Raquel Villavicencio).
Mimi is also very interested in Carding and will do everything to keep Carding to herself.
With everyone against Luisa and Carding, is there any hope for them?
